Telangana unveils new green energy policy to attract investments, create jobs, and become energy surplus by 2030.
HYDERABAD
The new green energy policy of Telangana would be unveiled on January 9 with the aim to attract investments and to create employment opportunities, Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka, who holds the portfolios of Energy and Finance, stated here on Monday.
Speaking after handing over the appointment letters to 315 Assistant Engineers recruited by the Telangana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TG-Genco) at Rajiv Gandhi statue outside the Secretariat, he said the new green energy policy would be a model to the country and was aimed at making the State energy surplus.
Of the 22,448 megawatt generation capacity planned to be added by 2030, 20,000 MW would be green energy. The remaining capacity would be that of thermal with new projects being planned at Ramagundam as a joint venture of the Genco-Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), at the Naini coal block in Odisha and others.
He criticised the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government for its failure to bring a new green energy policy for 10 years despite the State having huge potential to renewable energy capacity by utilising the available resources. The new policy approved by the State Cabinet on January 4 was formulated after studying the energy policies being implemented by other States and the resources available in the State for taking up renewable energy projects.
Stating that the government would also focus on strengthening and enhancing the transmission and distribution capacity in tune with increase in generation and demand, he said the previous government had even neglected the Naini coal block allotted to the State in Odisha for the last 10 years. However, immediately after coming to power he visited Naini and had a meeting with the Odisha Chief Minister seeking cooperation in getting early clearances for commencement of coal mining there.
The Congress government was supplying 24×7 quality power to all categories of consumers but the BRS was spreading misinformation by making use of social media and some newspapers, the Deputy CM said adding that uninterrupted supply was ensured even during the floods. He stated that the government was committed to fill vacancies in all departments by conducting exams on the lines of UPSC.
