Mayor M. Anbazhagan and Corporation Commissioner P.M.N Mujibur Rahuman have instructed civic officials to improve hygiene at the Kasivilangi Fish Market after inspecting it.
Being the main fish market of the city, a large amount of seafood is brought and sold here on a daily basis and consumers have to brave the stench and unhygienic conditions to make their purchases.
Since its opening, the fish market at Kasivilangi has been languishing in poor sanitary conditions. Residents living near the market complain about garbage being dumped around the market.
During the inspection on Monday, the Mayor urged the traders to keep their shops clean and confine themselves to the allotted space. He instructed the officials to ensure prompt and regular clearing of the waste and also directed them to repair the drainage system.
“I have ordered the civic workers to clear out the clogged drains and remove the waste dump. A parking space will be set up on the side to avoid traffic congestion in the area," Mr. Anbazhagan told The Hindu.
G. Divya, Deputy Mayor, P. Sivapatham, Executive Engineer, Selvabalaji, Assistant Commissioner, and A. Rajeskanna, Assistant Executive Engineer, accompanied the Mayor.
