Madurai city police establish 25th police station at Tirupparankundram Temple for enhanced security and focus on temple area.
Madurai city police have got its 25th police station with the State government allowing formation of Tirupparankundram Temple police station.
Following an announcement made by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in the Assembly in June 2024, a Government Order on formation of the new police station was issued in January, 2025.
“We have bifurcated the Tirupparankundram police station into two by creating Tirupparankundram Temple Police station for focussed and enhanced security for Subramaniaswamy Temple and the girivalam pathway around the hillock at Tirupparankundram,” said Madurai Commissioner of Police J. Loganathan.
Madurai city police have deployed one Inspector of Police, three Sub-Inspectors of Police and other police personnel for the newly-formed police station.
This will be the second exclusive police station for temple in the city with the other being the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple Police station.
The last time new police stations were formed was in 2020 with the inauguration of Mattuthavani and Tiruppalai police stations.
The Commissioner said the jurisdiction of Tirupparankundram police station was one of the biggest in the city.
