Kolkata Police to set up 24-hour outpost at Jadavpur University following clashes between students and officials.
Kolkata Police officials wrote to acting vice-chancellor Bhaskar Gupta on Tuesday (March 11, 2025) regarding installing a new 24-hour police outpost on campus, which will be under the jurisdiction of the Jadavpur Police Station.

In the letter, police officials have asked the Jadavpur University administration to determine a place on the university campus for setting up the police kiosk.
A top official of the Kolkata Police said that work will begin on constructing the police kiosk as soon as the university administration selects a piece of land on campus for the same.
This development assumes significance in light of the events unfolding within the Jadavpur University premises since March 1, the day on which State Education Minister Bratya Basu’s car was attacked by protesting students during a convention called by the Trinamool Congress-aligned professors’ body West Bengal College and University Professors’ Association (WBCUPA).
A 22-year-old protestor Indranuj Roy was grievously injured and sustained 14 stitches in his eye when the Minister’s vehicle ran him over on campus during the clash between WBCUPA professors and protesting students.
In the following days, large-scale protests had erupted among students of Jadavpur University who demanded stringent action against the Education Minister and professor Om Prakash Mishra, who have been named in First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection to the events of March 1.

After Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured protesting members that he would call a meeting of legislators after the Budget session to look into their problems, the BJP and Janata Dal (S) withdrew their dharna in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday on the issue of releasing honorarium from the State exchequer for Congress workers involved in the implementation of the five guarantee schemes.
