HNSS project deputy collector killed in a road mishap, four injured in Annamayya district

In a tragic incident, the Special Deputy Collector (Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi Project - Phase-II), S. Ramadevi, was killed, and four others were injured, two of them critically, when the car carrying a batch of officials collided head-on with another car near Sambepalle of Annamayya district on the Rayachoti-Chittoor State highway on Monday (April 7, 2025).
According to the Sambepalle police, the senior official was on her way to Rayachoti from a project site at Piler to attend Monday’s public grievance in Rayachoti, when the mishap occurred. Ms. Ramadevi was trapped inside the car following the mishap, which left the vehicle in mangled steel.
Some villagers and farmers from the fields rushed to the spot and pulled out the official by deploying farm tools. However, she was declared brought dead at the Government Hospital in Rayachoti. Two of her four subordinates accompanying her were critically injured and were under treatment in Rayachoti Hospital. Two other persons injured were inmates of the other car.
The tragic death of the HNSS special deputy collector led to a deep shock in the district administration.
Collector Sridhar Chamakuri cancelled the weekly grievance cell at the Collectorate and rushed to the area hospital. He directed the district medical and health officials to initiate all steps to provide quality medical care to the injured and shift them to Bengaluru if required.
The police registered a case and took up further investigation.
