The State’s revenue collection in the first three quarters of the financial year 2024-25 reached ₹1,81,908 crore. While revenue receipts have grown by 13%, GST collection has grown by 12% year-on-year till the end of December 2024.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot lauded the State Government’s impressive performance on various fronts and said the administration has disproved many predictions that Karnataka would lag behind in development and the financial system would deteriorate owing to implementation of the ambitious ‘guarantee’ schemes.
In his address to the joint session of the State legislature, the Governor said the State Government is developing a unique model of development, one that is being studied by economists and universities worldwide. The severity of inequality was decreasing due to the efficient implementation of welfare schemes, he said.
“The government has proved the prediction to be false. The State has recorded good achievements in every sector. The State income is increasing. Private capital is flowing into the State in record numbers”
He highlighted that the Karnataka model of development focuses on building a people-centred approach to economic, social, and cultural governance. “The government is shaping a unique model of development. The Karnataka model of development means creating a people-centric economic, social and cultural governance. Green energy and women empowerment are also included in this,” he said.
Pointing out that the Karnataka model is being studied extensively by global experts, the Governor said, “Oxford University has described this model as ‘Shining a Light in the Darkness’ and ‘A BluePrint for the World’ in its Human Rights Hub blog. The head of the United Nations has personally visited the State to learn about this model and openly praised our programmes.”
Noting that farmers had got a good harvest due to the absence of heavy rains and drought, Mr Gehlot said agricultural production is expected to touch 149 lakh tonnes in the kharif and rabi seasons. The number of suicides among farmer families in the State has reduced significantly due to the welfare programmes undertaken by the government.
Emphasising that over ₹90,000 crores was being spent annually on welfare programmes, the Governor said more than 1.25 crore families are benefiting from direct cash transfer schemes, subsidies and incentives provided by various departments.
