Puducherry AIADMK secretary A. Anbalagan on Wednesday (December 25, 2024) said the decision of the DMK not to support the no-confidence motion against Puducherry Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam has brought to light the duals stands of the party in its approach to the BJP.
Addressing a press conference in Puducherry, the AIADMK leader said the Opposition leader and DMK convenor R. Siva had on Tuesday (December 24, 2024) announced his party’s decision not to support the move by two Independent MLAs to bring a no-confidence motion against the Speaker. Contrary to the stand taken by the DMK, its ally, the Congress party, has decided to support the motion against the Speaker, Mr. Anbalagan said.
“The stand taken by the DMK has exposed the divide within the opposition camp in Puducherry and also brought to fore the duplicity of the DMK. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin opposes every decision of the Central government and claims to fight the BJP politically. In Puducherry, the DMK is the principal Opposition, but it has decided not to oppose the no-confidence motion against the Speaker, who belongs to the BJP. The DMK has always adopted double standards in its approach to the BJP,” he alleged.
Mr. Anbalagan said the DMK, in the last three and a half years, has followed a friendly approach to the AINRC-BJP government in Puducherry. “The principal Opposition in Puducherry has not taken a stand against the AINRC-BJP government. The DMK is always known for its dual stand and the minorities should see through the designs of the party. The Congress should also understand the duplicity of DMK,” he said.
The AIADMK, he said, had opposed the conduct of Mr. Selvam from the start. He has been flouting parliamentary procedures and rules by attending the programmes of the BJP. The Speaker has also given a dictate to officials to invite him to all the government programmes. There is no rule in the UT Act that demands officials to invite the Speaker to government events, Mr. Anbalagan said.
