Move will have far reaching impact on the unity and integrity of the country, says Narayanasamy
Condemning the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging people from States speaking in different languages to communicate in Hindi instead of English, former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Saturday said the move to impose Hindi would have a far reaching impact on the unity and integrity of the country.
“Our country has different faiths and languages. In South, people speak different languages and if we take the case of Puducherry, Tamil is the first language but we have recognised English, Telugu, Malayalam and French. The move by the Centre to impose Hindi will impact the unity of the country. A single language will not be enough to unite the country,” he said addressing the media.
Questioning the silence of N. R. Congress government on the issue of reservation for government school students in private medical colleges, he said the Congress government had taken a decision through an Assembly resolution to implement reservation for government school students in private medical colleges in the Union Territory. The decision could not be implemented by the Congress after failure to get the nod from the then Lt. Governor, Kiran Bedi, he added.
Urging Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to prevail upon the Lt. Governor to give assent to the reservation policy, Mr. Narayanasamy said failure on the part of the Chief Minister would only strengthen the view that N. R. Congress government has become a ‘slave’ to the BJP.
The Former Chief Minister said land grabbing had surfaced on a massive scale in the Union Territory. A woman residing in France had recently written to the French Embassy and Chief Secretary complaining about grabbing of her property in Puducherry by creating fake documents. The complainant had sought a probe by CBI into the land grabbing issue, he said.
