The seven-member team headed by Rajesh Gupta, Joint Director, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), arrived in Villupuram from Chennai.
The team split into two groups and inspected the damage due to flooding at the Regulated Marketing Committee in Vikravandi. It inspected the godown for a first-hand assessment of the damage caused to groundnut and other cash crops that were ruined due to inundation.
The team also inspected the breach segment of the Pambai channel at Ayyankoilpattu near Villupuram. Officials from the Water Resources Department elaborated on the breach and damage caused to the bunds due to torrential downpour triggered by the cyclone.
They inspected damage to infrastructure, roads, and inundation of standing crops, and habitations due to the breach of the Pambai channel at Vallamur in Kaanai block.
Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management P. Amudha and District Collector C. Palani detailed the loss that has been estimated to agricultural crops, roads, and other infrastructure due to the cyclone, with the help of a photo exhibition at the Villupuram Collectorate.
Official sources said that they had submitted the list of damage to infrastructure and standing crops due to flooding.
