Ajinkya Rahane named KKR captain for IPL 2025, Venkatesh Iyer as deputy; team ready to defend title.
Former India skipper Ajinkya Rahane will captain defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
As per an announcement on Monday (March 3, 2025), Venkatesh Iyer will be Rahane’s deputy in the 2025 season.
“It’s an honour to lead KKR, which has been one of the most successful franchises. We have an excellent and balanced squad. I look forward to working with everyone and taking up the challenge of defending the title,” said Rahane.
“We are delighted to have Rahane, who brings his experience and maturity as a leader. Venkatesh has been a franchise player for KKR and brings a lot of leadership qualities. We are confident that they will combine well as we start our title defence,” said KKR CEO Venky Mysore.
The three-time champion KKR will begin its campaign with the season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 22.
