Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday said the AICC was chalking out a programme to empower district party presidents and give a new shape to the party organisation.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Congress district presidents’ meeting, he said the AICC, under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and the general secretaries, held a meeting of district party presidents and decided to launch a programme to empower the party organisation.
“The district presidents were briefed on various aspects such as membership campaigns, inspection of voter list, appointment of BLOs, use of social media, raising donations for the party, etc. The central working committee meeting to be held in Gujarat will take a decision on the empowerment programme,” he added.
“Mallikarjun Kharge has taken several new steps to enhance the role of district party presidents. Some of the measures stipulate that the district in-charge Ministers meet district presidents at the party office during their visit to the district and take them along on the district tour,” he said.
