Minister launches fine rice distribution scheme in Telangana, empowering the poor and farmers, benefiting 3.10 crore people.
Minister for Roads, Buildings and Cinematography, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy launched the fine rice distribution scheme in Edavalli village in Kanagal mandal of Nalgonda district and described it as a major step towards the self-respect of the poor people in Telangana.
Mr. Reddy said the scheme aimed at empowering the poor and also the farmers as they would get better prices if they cultivate fine rice variety paddy. “No government has thought of benefitting two different sections of people with the same scheme and that which makes them financially strong and live with dignity,” he added.
The Minister said no government in the country was providing free fine rice and that too covering 3.10 crore people.
He said fine rice would be provided to residential schools and hostel students who are the future of the country. He said that the State government is buying Grade A grains at ₹2,320 per quintal as part of promoting fine grains and is also giving a bonus of ₹500.
Targeting the previous government and BRS chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao, he said that the previous government did not give a single ration card in 10 years, while the Congress has added the names of 20 lakh people to the new ration cards.
Mr. Reddy alleged that the previous government drained southern Telangana and diverted water to Andhra, ignored SLBC, and after coming to power, the Congress government allocated ₹4,518 crore in the budget for the payment project. He said the tunnel boring machine would be brought from the USA soon to continue the tunnel work which has been stopped due to the accident.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
