BBMP surpasses property tax collection target with innovative measures, achieving significant increase in revenue for 2024-25.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) collected ₹4,930 crore in property tax in the financial year 2024-25, a significant increase of around ₹1,000 crore compared to 2023-24, when the total amount collected was ₹3,918 crore.
While BBMP’s total target for this year was ₹5,210.47 crore, it achieved 94.62% collection.
Exceeding BBMP’s target, Yelahanka zone achieved a 104.36% tax collection amounting to ₹464.66 crore, followed by Mahadevapura zone which achieved a 100.12% collection with ₹1,310.58 crore, which is also the highest amount collected among all the zones.
With ₹733.65 crore, South zone achieved 95.34% collection, East zone achieved 93.52% with ₹843.14 crore and Dasarahalli zone collected ₹152.94 crore achieving 92.72% collection. The West Zone stood sixth with a collection of ₹562.61 crore (92.17%), Rajarajeshwari Nagar collected ₹381.75 crore (87.89%) while Bommanahalli achieved the least percentage 83.75% collection with ₹490.03 crore.
The BBMP credited this achievement to a number of measures that were taken up, including the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme which was introduced in February 2024. The scheme waived the compounding interest on arrears and reduced penalties by 50% providing a significant relief to defaulters.
Systematic work and IT-based follow up on arrears and current tax dues, issuing of SoPs and rules for recovering arrears and door-to-door follow up for arrears and current tax were the other reasons provided by Munish Moudgil, Special Commissioner (Revenue), BBMP.
He further said, “All this happened without increasing property tax rates which continue to be the same as they were in the year 2016. This financial year (2025-26), we will cross ₹6,000 crore.
