42,000 houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to be handed over to beneficiaries by government of Karnataka, says Minister

A total of 1,80,253 houses were sanctioned by the Karnataka Slum Development Board. Each house costs ₹7.50 lakh.
Housing and Minorities Welfare Minister B. Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan inspected houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at Mantur Road in Hubballi on April 13.
MLA and Karnataka Slum Development Board Chairperson Prasad Abbayya said that bhoomi puja for construction of the houses was done in 2017. In the first phase, 36,000 houses was handed over to beneficiaries, followed by 42,000 houses in the second phase, and more than 35,000 houses will be handed over to beneficiaries in the third phase.
The government of Karnataka will hand over over 42,345 houses to beneficiaries, Mr. Khan said in Hubballi on April 13.
He told reporters that Karnataka Slum Development Board is constructing 1,300 houses in the twin cities. Out of these, 1,008 houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries in the first week of May by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah and All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge at a programme in Hubballi in the first week of May.

The Central Government will provide ₹1.50 lakh as subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The State Government will provide ₹1.20 lakh as subsidy to general beneficiaries, and ₹2 lakh to SC, ST beneficiaries.
“Up to ₹5 lakh was being provided by the government of Karnataka for each house,” Prasad Abbayya said. ₹6,000 crore was released to the Karnataka Slum Development Board in phases.
