Belagavi Winter Session to see protests by 64 organizations at Suvarna Soudha, including Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti's Maha Melava request.
Belagavi is likely to witness protests by several organisations in front of the Suvarna Soudha during the Winter Session.
As many as 64 organisations have submitted requests seeking permission to protest in front of the Suvarna Soudha during the Winter Session of the legislature.
The district administration and the Commissioner of Police will study these applications and give permission to them.
These organisations will also be given a place and date to stage the protest, the officers said. They will be allowed to stage protest at two venues prepared for the purpose, one at Kondas Koppa and the other at Suvarna Garden tents.
The applications include a request for a Maha Melava in Belagavi Old City by the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti, which is demanding the merger of Marathi speaking areas, including Belagavi, with Maharashtra.
“The district administration has said that the MES rally will not be allowed. We have decided not to permit the rally. This has been communicated to the MES leaders in clear terms,” Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan told reporters on Sunday.
The MES has been holding the Maha Melava rallies since the first Winter Session in Belagavi. It usually invites Ministers, MLAs and MPs from Maharashtra for the rallies.
