Woman killed, 4 others injured in road accident in Ramanagara

48-year-old school assistant killed by drunk driver in Ramanagara, causing chaos and injuries, leading to driver's arrest.
A 48-year-old second division assistant of a government high school was killed and four others injured when a speeding car knocked them down in Kempegowdana Doddi in Ramanagara on Wednesday (December 18).
The deceased, H. Roopa, from Koppa village of Maddur district, was travelling in an autorickshaw along with four others. The accused driver, Praveen, was inebriated. His car hit a bus and later the autorickshaw. Under the impact, the autorickshaw crashed into a roadside shop and overturned.
The car driver, in a bid to escape, knocked down two more two-wheelers and crashed into another grocery shop. Agitated passers-by chased the car, stopped it, pulled the driver out and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.
The injured were taken to a near-by hospital where the doctor declared Roopa as brought dead.
The Ramanagara traffic police arrested Praveen on the charges of drunk driving, causing death due to negligence, and rash and negligent driving.
Traffic was disrupted for sometime and the police used crane to pull the damaged vehicles to clear the traffic.
