Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi addresses increasing violence against Dalits in the name of social justice at Vallalar event.
Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Monday said violence against Dalits had increased in the land where social justice has been spoken of, day and night, for the past six decades.
The Governor made the remarks while participating in the 202nd birth anniversary of Saint Vallalar, organised by the Vallalarin Vivegam Foundation at Hosur.
Mr. Ravi said: “In the land of Vallalar, we read news about violence in the name of caste; Dalits not being allowed to go to temples. I am surprised that this is happening in Vallalar’s land (Tamil Nadu), where politics is all the time around Samuga neethi (social justice). For the past six decades, we have been talking about social justice while discrimination, violence against Dalits and caste-related violence continue. If our people, especially those who talk too much about social justice, had followed their own words or were devotees of Vallalar, things would have improved.”
The teachings of Vallalar should be taken to every village all over the country and also abroad because there was much violence, inequality, and suffering in the world. “It must be the mission and vision of every Vallalar devotee and it should be taught in every school and college. This only makes the world a safer place,” the Governor added.
In the function, Sri Math Vayusidtha Ramanuja Jeeyar, Maha Shri Shri Yukteshwar Swamigal and followers of Saint Vallalar participated.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
