The compensation announced by the Tamil Nadu government for people affected by Cyclone Fengal is insufficient, and the administration should conduct a comprehensive survey to enumerate the damages caused by the floods and revise the relief amount by taking into account views of all those who were affected, said Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Wednesday (December 4, 2024).
The compensation announced by the Tamil Nadu government for people affected by Cyclone Fengal is insufficient, and the administration should conduct a comprehensive survey to enumerate the damages caused by the floods and revise the relief amount by taking into account the views of all those who were affected, said Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Wednesday (December 4, 2024).
In a statement, Mr. Vasan said farmers had raised crops and cattle by taking loans through various sources. They pointed out that the disaster relief announced by the State government was not sufficient and urged the administration to disburse at least ₹30,000 per acre as compensation, he said.
The State government could have fixed the compensation amount by consulting various stakeholders affected by the floods, he further said, adding that it should conduct a survey to enumerate the actual damages caused by the cyclone and revise the compensation based on the farmers’ demands.
