The Hindu Hitarakshana Samiti on Wednesday carried out protest in Mangaluru and Udupi against atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh.
Addressing the protesters near the Clock Tower Circle in Mangaluru, Sharan Pumpwell, Mangaluru Pranta Karyadarshi of Vishwa Hindu Parishat, said the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh was a continuation of attacks on Hindus across the world. Attacks are more in countries where Hindus are minority, he said.
Rajashekarananda Swami of Vajradehi Mutt, Mohandas Paramahamsa Swami, Vidyendra Tirtha Swami of Chitrapur Mutt, and Hindu Jagarana Vedike Pranta Karyadarshi Shrikant Shetty Karkala took part in the protest.
The protesters came in a procession from Ambedkar Circle. Soon after reaching Clock Tower Circle, the protesters came on the road to block movement of vehicles from Clock Tower Circle to A.B. Shetty Circle. There was heated exchange between the police and the protesters. As two cameramen of a private news channel were capturing the visuals, few protesters pulled the two cameramen and attempted to assault them.
In the protest held near the parking area of Krishna Mutt in Udupi, Paryaya Puttige Mutt seer Sugundendra Tirtha Swami asked Hindus to be united and fight not just against atrocities in Bangladesh but also against attacks of different kinds on Hindus across the country. Hindus should not take lightly the attempt in Karnataka to name their property as wakf property, the seer said.
