Schools reopen in Puducherry, institutions in inundated places to remain closed on Thursday

Schools in Puducherry reopen after Cyclone Fengal, except in flooded areas, with some schools closed for another day.
Barring schools situated in flooded areas or those functioning as relief centres, other schools in Puducherry reopened on Wednesday after being closed since November 27 due to the crossing of Cyclone Fengal through the region.
Apart from all government and private schools in Bahour Commune, government schools across rural Puducherry, remained closed as these places, that included vast agricultural lands, continued to be submerged in floodwater due to the spill over from the Thenpennaiyar and Malattar rivers.
The Thenpennaiyar and Sankarabarani rivers are in spate following heavy discharge from Sathanur reservoir and Veedur dam in Tamil Nadu.
The primary/middle/higher secondary schools spread across the Bahour, Ariyankuppam, Nettapakkam, Villianur and Mannadipet Communes remained shut.
The holiday applied to the government schools in areas such as Thavalakuppam and Kakkayanthope (Ariyankuppam Commune), Moolakulam, Kunichampet, Karayamputhur, Chinnakariyamputhur, Kaduvanar, Panayadikuppam, Krishnavaram, Manamedu, Pandasozhanallur (Nettapakkam Commune), Manalipet (Villianur Commune), Poornamkuppam, Uruvaiyar, Mangalam, Thirukkanur (Mannadipet Commune) and Panithittu.
Meanwhile, P. Priytarshny, Director of School Education has declared a holiday on Thursday as well for all government and private schools in Bahour Commune and 16 other schools in suburban/rural areas that are located in waterlogged places or are functioning as cyclone relief centres.
Outside of Bahour, government primary schools in Thavalakuppam, Kakkayanthoppu, Kariyamputhur, Chinnakaraiyamputhur, Kaduvanur, Krishnavaram, Manamedu, Thirukkanur, Nathamedu and the government middle schools in Pandasozhanallur, Poornamkuppam, TN Palayam and Panayadikuppam, and the high school in Panithittu will remain closed on Thursday.
