Vazhndhu Kattuvom scheme in Tiruchi district empowers women entrepreneurs through vocational training and e-commerce platforms for business growth.

As many as 42,937 beneficiaries have been extended assistance to the tune of ₹24.20 crore under the Vazhndhu Kattuvom scheme in Tiruchi district so far.
The scheme aims at increasing rural entrepreneurship and generating employment among women in Tamil Nadu. This is achieved by providing vocational training in community skill schools and technical training through community farm schools. Under the scheme, women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Adi Dravidar women, and other aspiring entrepreneurs are prioritised.
At an exhibition held at Tiruchendurai on Wednesday, entrepreneurs from Srirangam Banana Farmers Federation, comprising 18 women, showcased their products such as fertilizers and products made from recycled banana waste. They also highlighted compost-lined plant pots to showcase innovative products. Some of the products were ready for export, said a member of the federation.
“One of the goals of empowering women entrepreneurs under the scheme is through the use of e-commerce platforms to promote their businesses and sell merchandise,” said Collector M. Pradeep Kumar.
Other entrepreneurs showcased a variety of herbal and homemade products. Some women entrepreneurs also operated cloud-based kitchens to make pastries, manufactured cold-pressed oils, bamboo crafts, homemade soaps, incense sticks, snacks, and trinkets, among others.
“To sustain these businesses on e-commerce platforms, the entrepreneurs are taught how to make value-added products. This coupled with innovative products will help the businesswomen to generate a good turnover and sustain their businesses. The district administration is also making sure that the entrepreneurs get the recognition they deserve by giving them a space to set up shop at public events hosted in Tiruchi,” said Mr. Pradeep Kumar.
