Two police constables were suspended after an accused person they were escorting to prison escaped in Perundurai, Erode, on Wednesday (March 26, 2025).
On Tuesday (March 25, 2025), an alarm went off at a private mobile phone tower in the Vaikalmedu area. Tower supervisor Venkatachalam and his team inspected the site and found an unidentified man disconnecting cables in an attempt to steal them. They apprehended him and handed him over to the Vellode police. The suspect was later identified as S. Rubykhan, 35, from the Bengaluru Ring Road area in Karnataka. A case was registered, and he was arrested.
The following day, he was produced in court, where he was remanded to a prison in Perundurai. Head constables Bharathi and Kalaimani of the Vellode police station were assigned to escort him. However, during a stop at a hotel in Perundurai for a meal, the accused escaped while washing his hands, and could not be found.
Despite three days of search efforts, the police were unable to locate him, leading to the suspension of both constables on Friday (March 28, 2025).
