Tirupati district to build water tanks for cattle relief from summer heat under MGNREGA, completed in two weeks.
The Tirupati district administration has planned to build water tanks to provide relief to the cattle from the scorching summer heat.
District Collector S. Venkateswar formally performed the ‘Bhumi Puja’ for building such water tanks under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Narayanavanam mandal here on Tuesday, along with District Water Management Agency (DWMA) Project Director Srinivasa Prasad.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, the Collector said that the district machinery will ensure proper facilities and treatment to the animals to protect them from the heatwave, which he said was expected to rise further in the coming months.
“We are planning to construct 1,612 water tanks/pits for the benefit of cattle across the district, at a cost of ₹33,200 each. The entire process will be completed in two weeks,” Mr. Venkateswar said, directing the DWMA officials to expedite the process in tune with the deadline.

Senior CPI(M) leader A.K. Balan, who was removed from the party central committee at the 24th Party Congress in Madurai late last week in accordance with the age cap of 75 years for party positions, made a poignantly reflective Facebook post on Saturday, recalling his early years in the party and also stating, figuratively, that he is on the verge of yet another eviction – from the AKG Flat this time.
