TVMCH performs 115 corrective surgeries for congenital heart ailments, providing free treatment under the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme.
The Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH) has done 115 corrective surgeries for the congenital heart ailments in the past two years.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday after the ‘Pongal’ celebrations, Dean, TVMCH, Revathi Balan said the ₹3-lakh-worth treatment is given to the children with congenital heart ailments by involving the Departments of Paediatrics and Cardio Thoracic Surgery of TVMCH and the surgeons from Apollo Hospital, Chennai.
Moreover, 35 cleft-lip corrective surgeries, 5 cochlear implant surgeries and 6 congenital cataract surgeries have also been done. Another 28 children suffering from cardiac ailments received free treatment without surgery.
“All these surgeries and treatments are being done through District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. Hence, the children, each underwent ₹3-lakh-worth surgeries, need not pay any money,” Dr. Revathi said.
The Dean said the TVMCH stands third among the government medical college hospitals of Tamil Nadu in giving treatment to the patients under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in 2024 - 2025. Minister for Public Health Ma. Subramanian handed over the merit certificate for achieving this feat to Dr. Revathi in a function held in Chennai recently.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
