Rally for girl child taken out
The NSS unit o Kamaraj Women’s College, Thoothukudi and JCI Pearlcity Queenbees jointly organised ‘Let her fly: celebrating girl child day’ rally on January 21. C. Wilson Amirtharaj of JCI, flagged off the rally which started from the college and ended at Tharuvai Stadium. A total of 240 students participated in the rally. The Thoothukudi police provided guidance and support for the event. The programme was organised by NSS Programme Officer P. Aruna Devi. The objective of taking out the rally was to create an awareness on the importance of protecting girl children from abuse and sexual harassment and to ensure that they received proper education.
NICHE gets copyright certificate
Members of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE), Kumaracoil, Kanniyakumari district - G. Ramadas, D. Allwin, and M. Dev Anand - have received copyright from the Copyright Office, New Delhi, for their groundbreaking work titled ‘Intelligent library automation management system with Automated Guided Vehicles and robotics.’ Their innovative work is expected to provide more efficient, automated, and intelligent solutions to improve library operations and services. The Copyright certificate was handed over to Chancellor A. P. Majeed Khan. This achievement emphasises the institution’s commitment to advancing technology in education and library management, and a testament to the dedication of the team in pushing the boundaries of technological innovation.
Award received
Pushpalata Vidya Mandir, Tirunelveli, was recognised at Sri Sri Awards 2025. The institution has been selected as winner under the category of ‘Sri Sri Award for Overall Excellence.’ Correspondent Pushpalata Pooranan received the award in the presence of Sri Sri Ravishankar, a spiritual leader, on January 21, at the Art of Living International Centre, Bengaluru.
To commemorate National Mathematics Day, St. Xavier’s College, Tirunelveli, organised various competitions for school students on January 10. Students of PVM secured the first place in Maths Talent Exam (Category I and II), second place in Maths Talent Exam (Category II); first place in Maths model (Category II), the second and the third positions in Maths model presentation (Category III); the first and the second places in Quiz competition.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has sanctioned DPRs for construction of the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail for a length of 46.23 km in three corridors at an estimated cost of ₹11,498 crore and the Vijayawada Metro Rail for a length of 38.40 km in two corridors at a cost of ₹11,009 crore.
