Telangana Council of Higher Education revises Bachelor of Engineering syllabus to focus on employability skills and emerging technologies.
The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) core committee met on Friday (February 21, 2025) for deliberations on revising the Bachelor of Engineering syllabus to align with the State government’s priority on education with employability skills.
The chair of the committee Sriram Venkatesh informed that uniformity in credit framework, strengthening and protecting the core branches by blending with courses with emerging technologies, while following requirements of AICTE model curriculum, were discussed.
As per the committee’s recommendations, all universities will have a uniform structure and credit framework which include 20 credits per semester or 160 credits for four years.
In addition, 20 credits for minor degree programmes will be introduced to strengthen and protect the core branches by blending with courses with emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cyber Security and the like.
At the end of second and third year, two mandatory credit-based industrial internships with special focus on industrial projects.
To help fast learners, such as students who can complete 160 credits by the end of sixth or seventh semester, the remaining semester’s time can be devoted full time for industrial internship/project. Additionally, credit transfer policy is made possible for credits earned out of certification courses.
The recommendations also suggest at least four industrial or field visits during the programme of study, engagement of ‘Professors of Practice’ to teach emerging technologies, encouraging faculty and student exchange programmes, to encourage universities colleges to have a greater number of MoUs with industries, R&D establishments, premier institutions in India and abroad, and to encourage faculty for faculty development programmes and at least one-week industrial training in a year to keep themselves abreast with the latest technologies.
