Based on sensitive intel, the police arrested Karthick (alias Chinna Karthick or Pannapuram Karthick) in Chennai. Sources in the police said Karthick, 38, a native of Theni district, went underground after joining the CPI (Maoist), a proscribed organisation in India. On the run since 2011, he was involved in various unlawful activities of the banned outfit and operated out of various States, including Tamil Nadu, the police said.
After joining the organisation, he underwent arms training in the forests of Kerala to strengthen the base of the CPI (Maoist) in the tri-junction of KKT (Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu) States. He was previously booked by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Kochi.
The Q-Branch CID registered a case against him in Chennai and remanded him to judicial custody on Saturday (February 22, 2025).

New ration cards will be issued in Andhra Pradesh from March, says Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar. An opportunity will be provided to the existing ration card-holders to make changes, the Minister says. The government has procured 33 lakh tonnes of paddy from 5.87 lakh farmers during kharif and deposited ₹7,480 crore into their accounts in 24 hours, he says.
