
Govt. will launch ‘Pragati Patha’ scheme to improve rural road network next month, says Priyank Kharge

The government will invest ₹5,190 crore to improve and develop 7,110 km of rural network roads under the scheme, Mr. Priyank said, while speaking after inaugurating the second edition of ‘Hombelaku’, a sports and cultural event for members and employees of rural and urban local bodies in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
The Minister said that AICC president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge and Chief Minister Siddaramiah will launch the scheme next Saturday.
It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in his 2024-25 Budget, had announced that the scheme would be rolled out with external assistance to develop 50 km each in 189 Rural Assembly constituencies, at a total cost of ₹5,200 crore.
Mr. Kharge said the government has set a target of providing 13 crore man days of work by the end of this financial year under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). So far, 47 lakh persons from 27 lakh families have been benefited from works under MNREGA.
The Minister said Karnataka topped the overall Devolution Index ranking, as per the report ‘Status of Devolution to Panchayats in States – An Indicative Evidence-Based Ranking’ that was released by the Centre on February 13.
Under the ‘Koosina Mane’ scheme of providing childcare for working women, the Minister said more than 3,000 Koosina Mane have been set up across the State so far. More than 47,000 children have registered with Koosina Manes. There is no shortage of funds and government will continue with schemes that empower people and help downtrodden families.

New ration cards will be issued in Andhra Pradesh from March, says Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar. An opportunity will be provided to the existing ration card-holders to make changes, the Minister says. The government has procured 33 lakh tonnes of paddy from 5.87 lakh farmers during kharif and deposited ₹7,480 crore into their accounts in 24 hours, he says.

Vijayashankar met Bhimavva Doddabalappa Shillekyathara, who was recently awarded the Padma Shri for her contribution to Togalu Gombeyaata, a form of shadow puppetry using leather dolls, at her residence in Moranal village of Koppal district on Saturday. He invited her to the Meghalaya Raj Bhavan.
