Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to inaugurate a manimandapam (memorial), in honour of 21 “social justice activists,” constructed in Villupuram on January 28. He will also inaugurate a memorial hall in the district honouring former Minister A. Govindasamy.

The CM had earlier announced that a manimandapam would be dedicated to 21 “social justice activists” who lost their lives in the police firing during the [Vanniyar] reservation struggle in September 1987. The memorial has been constructed at Vazhudhareddi in Villupuram at a cost of ₹5.70 crore.
He had also announced that a memorial hall would be constructed in honour of Govindasamy, who served in the Cabinets headed by former Chief Ministers C.N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi. The hall has also been constructed at Vazhudhareddi, at a cost of ₹4 crore.
