Students urged to make the most of opportunities

Former ISRO Director emphasizes self-discipline for success, encourages students to seize opportunities in growing sectors like space and defense.
While one may be talented, self-discipline was very important for growth and to achieve success, former Director of ISRO Satellite Centre Mylswamy Annadurai advised students at Thiagarajar College of Engineering here on Thursday.
Speaking at the 67th College Day function, he spoke about India’s growth in various sectors and said that opportunities are knocking at the door. He advised the students that they should be in a position to make the best use of them.
Referring to the Kulasekarapattinam spaceport project, he told the students that one need to have a technical bent of mind to take up those opportunities. India was making significant progress in various sectors like defence, space and sustainable development.
Meticulous planning and innovation do not mean spending a lot of money, as India had shown the world through its mission to the Moon and Mars. He advised the students to aim bigger that what they had already done and to focus on growth.
Earlier, College secretary Hari Thiagarajan, in his welcome address, spoke about the achievements of Mr. Mylswamy Annadurai. He told the students about the opportunities in the defence sector. There was innovation in defence manufacturing and maintenance and the government was looking at indigenous space components. India has an aspiring population, young and exuberant, which is our strength, he said.
Mr. Mylswamy Annadurai felicitated the toppers at the event. Principal L. Ashok Kumar presented the annual report and Professor S.J. Thiruvengadam proposed the vote of thanks.
