SBI donates ambulance for rescue of homeless, destitutes in Erode
The State Bank of India (SBI), Commercial Branch, Erode, has donated an ambulance worth ₹27 lakh to Atchayam Charitable Trust to support the rescue and rehabilitation of the homeless and destitutes.
At a function held on Thursday on the trust’s premises in Solar Pudur, J. Srinivasa Rao, General Manager, SBI, Chennai, and Ram Nivash Mahala, Deputy General Manager, SBI, Erode Commercial Branch, handed over the vehicle keys to P. Naveen Kumar, founder and president of the trust. The event was attended by Deputy Mayor V. Selvaraj, Corporation Commissioner (in charge) and Deputy Commissioner K. Dhanalakshmi, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) C. Velumani, District Social Welfare Officer S. Shanmugavadivu and District Differently Abled Welfare Officer S. Boopathi.
Mr. Naveen Kumar said the newly donated emergency rescue vehicle would significantly aid in rescuing and rehabilitating alms seekers, mentally challenged individuals, elderly people, and others in distress found on the streets. He added that the trust rescued and rehabilitated 1,450 such individuals over the past 10 years.
As a highlight of the event, two elderly women who had earlier been rescued by the trust were reunited with their families.
SKM Shree Shivkumar, Managing Director, SKM Egg Products and SKM Siddha and Ayurveda Company India Limited, K. Sudhakar, Sudha Hospitals, S. Ganesan, secretary, Olirum Erodu Foundation, P.M. Sivasankaran, Managing Director, Oasis Restaurant, and K.P. Ravindran, Correspondent, SSM Lakshmi Ammal Educational Institutions were present.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
