
Railway users demand additional stop, more trains and extra ticket counters at DRUCC meeting in Tiruchi

Improvement of passenger amenities at stations, introduction of Vande Bharat express, new halts for express trains and the need for operation of additional train services were among the demands raised at the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting organised by the Tiruchi Railway Division here on Thursday.

The committee chairman and the Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, M.S. Anbalagan presided over the two-hour long meeting in which senior divisional officers were present.
T. Saravanan, a DRUCC member based at Papanasam, wanted the railway administration to provide a one minute halt for the unreserved Tambaram - Nagercoil - Tambaram Antyodaya express trains at Papanasam station as many travellers could not get confirmed accommodation in the Thanjavur - Chennai Egmore Uzhavan Express.
Operation of either a Vande Bharat express train or an Inter-city express from Thanjavur to Bengaluru and creation of an additional ticket counter at Kumbakonam station in view of the rise in passenger movements were among his other demands.
V.R. Dhanaseelane, a DRUCC member based at Karaikal, sought the provision of lifts on platforms 1 and 2 at Karaikal railway station. Operation of an early morning train from Karaikal to Tiruchi, installation of surveillance cameras at the station were his other demands. He also pleaded for quota for passengers of Karaikal in the Chendur Express and a one-minute halt of Chennai-Karaikal and three other express trains at Tirumalairayanpattinam railway station.
Abdul Razak, a DRUCC member of Adirampattinam, requested the railway administration to provide halt of the newly announced Tambaram-Rameswaram express train at Muthupet, Adirampattinam, and Peravurani railway stations. Operation of day train between Karaikudi and Mayiladuthurai to connect the Cholan Express train in Mayiladuthurai was his other demand.
Mr. Anbalagan and other branch officers acknowledged the concerns raised by the members and assured that their demands would be carefully considered for implementation.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
