Police return 100 recovered mobile phones to owners

Superintendent of Police Albert John on Tuesday handed over 100 mobile phones worth about ₹11 lakh to the rightful owners, who either lost them or the handsets were stolen from them.
Mr. Albert John said cases were registered in various police stations in the district based on the complaints received from the owners who lost their mobile phones. Subsequently, the Cyber Crime Division, led by ADSP Sahaya Jose and Inspector Shanthi, spotted the locations of these mobile phones using the gadgets’ IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. As the Cyber Crime Division alerted the police stations concerned after locating the places, the mobile phones were recovered.
Mr. John said the police had so far recovered 1,065 handsets, worth ₹1.13 crore, which were lost accidentally or stolen. He praised the Cyber Crime Division for recovering the mobile phones.
Mr. Albert John said handset owners who lose their gadgets should 1930 for registering complaints or register the complaint online through cybercrime.gov.in
“If you lose your mobile phone, you may file the complaint with the police station concerned and register these details in ceir.gov.in,” Mr. Albert John said.
