Pensioners protest in Tirunelveli against Centre's plan to segregate retirees for 8th Pay Commission benefits.
Central and State government pensioners staged a demonstration in Tirunelveli on Friday in protest against the Centre’s move to segregate the pensioners as retirees before and after the 8th Pay Commission for fixing the retirement benefits.
As the pensioners, who will retire before January 1, 2026 are likely to be missed out of 8th Pay Commission benefits, the pensioners staged the demonstration. Led by R. Seetharaman, president of Confederation of Pensioners of Central and State Local Bodies and Public Sector Undertakings, the protestors raised slogans against the move to segregate them as retirees before and after the 8th Pay Commission for fixing the pension benefits.
The urged the Centre to treat all the pensioners equally while fixing the benefits of the upcoming Pay Commission.
Office-bearers S. Muthusamy, N. Ramkumar, S. Kannan, K. Sivasubbu and others spoke.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
