Intense political battle in New Delhi as BJP candidate files defamation suit against AAP leaders over allegations.
BJP’s New Delhi candidate Parvesh Sahib Singh on Wednesday filed a ₹50-crore defamation suit each against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for making “misleading statements” about him terming people from Punjab a “threat” to the country in speeches made earlier in the day.
The former MP said, “I don’t need to mention what my family and I have done for the Sikh community.”
He accused the AAP leaders of “lying due to frustration over their imminent defeat” in the upcoming poll.
In response, Mr. Kejriwal said in a post on X, “Does the BJP consider all Punjabis terrorists and traitors? We strongly oppose such divisive statements. We demand that [senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister] Amit Shah apologise for these comments to the entire nation, and specifically to the Punjabi community.”
The BJP candidate had earlier alleged that “thousands of cars from Punjab, carrying AAP Ministers, legislators and even the CM,” had come to Delhi over the past few days to campaign for the ruling AAP ahead of the Assembly poll.
“I don’t have a problem with their campaign, but they are influencing voters by distributing CCTV cameras, liquor, and money,” he claimed.
