Regaining their supremacy in the Champions Boat League season-4 (CBL-4), Karichal Chundan (snakeboat) rowed by Pallathuruthy Boat Club (PBC) emerged victorious in a thrilling final in the fourth race of the competition held on the leading channel at Karuvatta in Alappuzha on Saturday.
Veeyapuram Chundan powered by Village Boat Club (VBC) Kainakary finished a close second, while Niranam Chundan rowed by Niranam Boat Club (NBC) secured third place. PBC finished the race in 3.51:11 minutes. VBC crossed the finish line in 3.52:01 minutes and NBC in 3.52:65 minutes.
The race featured a total of nine teams. The three teams qualified for the final, based on the best timings in the heats. In the final, all three snakeboats fought neck and neck during the first two quarters.
Towards the third quarter, Karichal earned an edge over its rivals. Niranam, on the second track, was in the second position and Veeyapuram was trailing by a few inches. In the last quarter, Veeyapuram made an incredible leap and gave a tight fight to Karichal, but it was not good enough to win the race.
A week earlier, Veeyapuram pipped Karichal to win the third race of the CBL-4 held on the Pampa river at Pandanad near Chenagnnur.
The Karuvatta race placed PBC atop the points table, with VBC in second and United Boat Club Kainakary in third.
The fifth race of CBL-4 will be held at Kayamkulam on December 14, followed by the final race in Kollam on December 21.
