Maruti Suzuki steps into the EV space with the e-Vitara
Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the e-Vitara an all-electric SUV that offers impressive performance and advanced features, with two high-capacity battery options of 49kWh and 61kWh, providing a driving range of over 500 km on a single charge. The e-Vitara is powered by an advanced 3-in-1 electric powertrain system that integrates the motor, inverter, and transmission, delivering superior efficiency. The vehicle’s cutting-edge battery system incorporates Cell-To-Pack technology and a sophisticated thermal management system, designed to maintain performance even in extreme temperatures, ranging from -30°C to 60°C. The inclusion of regenerative braking and three distinct driving modes — Eco, Normal, and Sports — enhances range and offers a customisable driving experience. The e-Vitara also features a snow terrain mode and an adaptive grille shutter system that adjusts to driving conditions, further optimising efficiency.
With a bold, masculine SUV stance, the e-Vitara is designed for maximum appeal. The vehicle showcases dynamic polyhedral styling and aerodynamic elements, including 18-inch alloy wheels and roof-end spoilers. Its futuristic front fascia is highlighted by next-generation NEXTré 3-Point Matrix LED DRLs and LED projector headlamps.
Inside, the e-Vitara provides a premium, sophisticated environment, featuring a digital cockpit with a 10.1-inch integrated display system and a 10.25-inch multi-information display. The twin-deck floating console adds to the cabin’s high-end aesthetic, while soft-touch dual-tone materials and ambient lighting elevate the overall atmosphere. A fixed-glass sunroof contributes to an enhanced sense of space, and the vehicle offers best-in-class seating, including a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat and versatile rear seating with a 40:20:40 split configuration that can recline and slide for added comfort.
Safety is a key focus of the e-Vitara. Its robust structural design incorporates over 50% high-tensile steel, along with an energy-absorbing battery pack mounting structure. The vehicle is equipped with Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), which includes features like collision mitigation, lane assist, and adaptive cruise control. Additionally, seven airbags, including a driver-side knee airbag, are standard across all variants. The e-Vitara also comes with an electronic parking brake, all-disc brakes, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ensuring top-tier safety.
Manufactured in India, the e-Vitara will be exported to over 100 countries, including major markets in Japan and Europe. Designed and tested for extreme conditions, the vehicle further solidifies India’s position as a global hub for EV manufacturing.
The e-Vitara is expected to launch in India in the second half of 2025. While pricing details have not yet been confirmed, Maruti Suzuki has indicated that they want to ensure the e-Vitara remains accessible to a wide range of consumers.
