An employee of a readymade garment firm, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was found dead in a hotel room in Mangaluru on Saturday (March 1, 2025). In a post on social media, the victim said the rejection of his marriage proposal by a CISF officer had led him to end his life.
The Mangaluru South police gave the name of the victim as Abhishek Singh, 40, a native of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradhesh. He was working for a Chennai-based garment firm. He had come to Mangaluru on February 27, 2025, to take part in a handloom exhibition at T.M.A. Pai Convention Hall. Abhishek was staying in a hotel in Bunder area of the city.
The police found him hanging from the ceiling of the room on March 1.
In a complaint filed with Mangaluru South police on March 3, the deceased’s brother, Rahul Kumar Singh, said Abhishek was in relationship with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer Monika Sihag, a native of Hissar in Haryana.
On the morning of March 1 morning, Abhishek called his brother and said that Ms. Sihag had refused to marry him. He said that she was already married with a child and had hidden this fact from him. Ms. Sihag had also taken around ₹15 lakh from Abhishek. She reportedly told Abhishek that she would live happily with her husband and son if Abhishek does not live.
Following this conversation, Abhishek is said to have switched off his mobile phone. Rahul later saw his brother’s 21-minute long video on Facebook and Instagram, wherein the latter reiterated what he had told former on phone. Rahul then became aware of Abhishek’s ending his life in the hotel room. He came down to Mangaluru from New Dehli to lodge the complaint seeking action against Ms. Sihag.
The police have registered a complaint for offence under Section 108 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (abetment to suicide). A notice will be sent to Ms. Sihag, the police said.
