The accused, according to the Bengaluru police, has cheated 38 persons after promising a ‘field officer job’ in the spy agency. They had demanded a fee ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh from each person.
According to the police, Venugopal was employed in some private companies in Bidar. At some point, he quit and came to Bengaluru. He spent time watching movies, visiting various places and making new friends. He introduced himself as a ‘special agent for RAW’.
According to the police, Venugopal met Arvind at a coffee shop one year ago. Introducing himself as a RAW agent, he asked Arvind to help him to find educated youth for recruitment.
Arvind initially directed two youths to Venugopal who were allegedly cheated. When Arvind confronted Venugopal, the latter explained his plan and offered 50% commission for every candidate, said the police.
The duo started cheating gullible youth by offering them a job in the ‘secret service’ after taking money from them. For a month or two, the victims were paid a salary. The victims were told that they should not discuss the work even with their family members. Later, the duo would disappear with the money taken from the youths. Their number would be switched off.
