BJP demands re-survey of RRR project, accuses Telangana government of favoring south over north, questions Chief Minister's intentions.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Tuesday, has demanded that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy review and order a scientific re-survey of the detailed project report for the proposed 340-km Regional Ring Road (RRR) and also consider the pleas of the affected farmers in the north part of the project.
Addressing a press conference at the State office, Rajya Sabha MP and national OBC chairman K. Laxman said that despite the Centre offering to fund the ₹7,000-odd crore project including 50% of the land acquisition cost, the State government has been pussyfooting with farmers’ protests and focusing on the south part of the work. The BJP leader has accused the government of sending a detailed project report without proper details of the current and project flows. There are no details of the land acquisition despite the government claiming 90% work has been done for the 2,333 acres for the north part but has been trying to put pressure on the Centre for the south part work.
“What is the Chief Minister trying to show by taking the Centre for a ride? Does he want the project to become a game changer for Telangana or make it into a real estate project? Why is he showing lot of interest in the south part work without bothering to have a re-look at the alignment done during the previous regime?,” he questioned.
Mr. Laxman stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had shown a “big heart” in sanctioning the RRR rising above politics but the confused administration of Revanth Reddy government has been attacking the BJP and its leadership to divert people’s attention from the failed guarantees implementation. He wanted the Chief Minister to call an all party meeting on the project.
Later, in an informal talk with the media, the MP asserted that the Centre will take up census “soon” and delimitation of the constituencies will be taken up after the exercise. The Centre has not not yet decided if caste enumeration too will be taken up alongside and quoted Mr. Modi to state that the South will not be discriminated against in any manner post delimitation.
Telangana government’s caste census turned to be a fake with contentious figures and called for a “scientific” research to correctly enumerate the castes to decide on quota, he charged and accused the Congress agenda of inserting the Muslims into the reservations mix at the cost of Backward Classes (BCs) for political gains. The victory in MLC elections is an indication of the people’s disenchantment with the Congress government, he added.
