
T.N. Assembly Committee inspects development works in Cuddalore district

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Committee inspects infrastructure projects and amenities in Cuddalore district, reviewing progress and future plans.
Members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Committee on Public Undertakings, led by its Chairman A.P. Nandakumar, inspected progress of infrastructure projects and works to create amenities in Cuddalore district on Tuesday.
The Committee inspected the eco-park at Mines 1 and 1 A in NLC India Limited (NLCIL) in Neyveli. They also inspected the lignite deposits and reviewed the progress of various works taken up by the company. The team also inspected the health sub-centre in Neyveli and enquired with the patients about the treatment, availability and requirement of facilities, besides the general functioning of the centre.
Following this, the Committee visited the Veeranam tank in Kattumannarkovil.
The State government had sanctioned funds for implementing a project to increase the storage capacity of the Veeranam tank and the work would begin shortly, Mr. Nandakumar said.
The members also visited the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation godown at Cuddalore and enquired about the distribution of essential commodities through cooperative societies and public distribution system.
Later, the Committee members held a meeting with the officials of the district administration to review the functioning of the public sector undertakings in Cuddalore. Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar and members of the Committee, including Chengam MLA M.P. Giri and Kattumannarkovil MLA M. Sinthanai Selvan participated.

A total of 3,464 pilgrims had registered to participate in the annual festival being held at the famous St. Antony’s Church in Katchatheevu, said organisers here on Tuesday. The church was established by the fishermen of India and Sri Lanka way back in 1913 St. Antony was worshipped as a protector of the fishermen and the fishermen offer prayers at the church as a mark of thanksgiving to the God for proving them good produce.
