
Karur to get eight more mini textile parks, says Senthilbalajai

State government approves mini textile parks in Karur district, providing grants to entrepreneurs for construction under Tamil Nadu scheme.
The State government has approved eight more proposals submitted by entrepreneurs to set up mini textile parks in Karur district, according to Electricity Minister V. Senthilbalaji.
Inaugurating a mini textile park, along with Minister for Textiles and Handlooms R. Gandhi, set up by a group of three entrepreneurs under the Tamil Nadu Mini Textile Park Scheme at Kullampatti near here on Tuesday Mr. Senthilbalaji said the entrepreneurs spent ₹5.9 crore for the mini textile park. Of the total expenditure, the State government would extend ₹2.2 crore towards grants to the entrepreneurs. Of this, ₹1.32 crore had already been released. The scheme was aimed at shouldering a portion of expenditure for establishing mini parks.
The State received 10 more mini textile park proposals from Karur. Of them, eight had been approved and the entrepreneurs had started construction work. Under the scheme, the State would bear 50% of the expenditure on establishing common facilities, infrastructure and factory buildings. The maximum grant would be ₹2.5 crore for each park.
Later, Mr. Senthilbalaji and Mr. Gandhi inaugurated a common facility centre at Velusamypuram for the benefit of handloom weavers. A sum of ₹45,89 lakh was spent for establishing the facility on a 2,430 square feet site.

A total of 3,464 pilgrims had registered to participate in the annual festival being held at the famous St. Antony’s Church in Katchatheevu, said organisers here on Tuesday. The church was established by the fishermen of India and Sri Lanka way back in 1913 St. Antony was worshipped as a protector of the fishermen and the fishermen offer prayers at the church as a mark of thanksgiving to the God for proving them good produce.
