BRS leader accuses Chief Minister of breaking promise by planning to sell 400 acres of government land for profit.
HYDERABAD
Senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) T. Harish Rao has alleged that by planning to dispose of about 400 acres of government land in the city, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has buried another promise made to Telangana people in his capacity as the Pradesh Congress Committee chief.
Mr. Reddy had vehemently opposed the sale of government lands, particularly in and around the city, stating that there would be no land parcel left even for the burial grounds if the spree of land sale continued for filling coffers or to overcome shortage of funds. Even Minister for Revenue P. Srinivasa Reddy had announced in the Assembly stating that the government would not resort to land sale, come what may, the BRS leader recollected.
However, the Chief Minister appears to be going back on this promise too as he was planning to make about ₹30,000 crore from the proceeds of land sale to meet the need of funds for implementation of government schemes and also to make money from kickbacks, Mr. Harish Rao said and sought to know how could the former forget his statement that government lands meant the wealth of Telangana people and hereditary property to be passed on to next generations.
The BRS leader noted that the government had invited bids on February 28 for appointment of consultants for the sale of land in the name of master plan. The government was planning to sell 400 acres of land, which was already mortgaged to banks to raise ₹10,000 crore at ₹25 crore per acre in survey number 25 of Kancha Gachibowli village.
Now, the government was planning to raise about ₹30,000 crore by auctioning the land at ₹75 crore per acre. When the matter was raised in the Assembly on June 26, 2024, the government had replied to him (Harish Rao) that GO 54 was issued only to transfer the land to Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC).

Terming the allegations of the Opposition BJP that the Congress government had illegally diverted and misused the funds meant for the welfare of Dalits under SCSP-TSP as “false and misleading”, RDPR and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday made clear that these funds had been “legally” transferred to guarantee schemes for “exclusive” use of SC/ST beneficiaries in proportion to their population size. These funds will never be used for beneficiaries of other communities, he asserted.

A total of 3,464 pilgrims had registered to participate in the annual festival being held at the famous St. Antony’s Church in Katchatheevu, said organisers here on Tuesday. The church was established by the fishermen of India and Sri Lanka way back in 1913 St. Antony was worshipped as a protector of the fishermen and the fishermen offer prayers at the church as a mark of thanksgiving to the God for proving them good produce.
