Nilgiris MP inaugurates mobile ration shop in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve

MP A. Raja inaugurates mobile ration shop benefiting families in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, addresses community needs.
The Nilgiris Lok Sabha MP, A. Raja, inaugurated a mobile ration shop that will benefit more than 26 families in Kargudi in the core area of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) on Tuesday.
The Nilgiris district administration said the Mudumalai Range Forest Employees’ Cooperative Stores was already operating a fair price shop at Theppakadu that was benefiting 346 families living within the reserve, mostly belonging to tribal communities. The MP, along with the District Collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, had taken note of the demands of Kargudi residents and inaugurated the mobile ration shop, which will visit the village twice a month on pre-scheduled days, the officials said.
Mr. Raja also opened a fair price shop at Padanthorai, built at ₹18 lakh. The shop had been functioning from a rented building previously and the move to the permanent building will benefit 1,143 ration card holders in the area.
He also inspected a road constructed at a cost of ₹2.96 crore connecting a 3.29 km stretch between Bospara and Chembakolli in Devarsholai town panchayat as well as other projects.
Mr. Raja also participated in a Samudhaya Valaikappu event held in Gudalur attended by 100 pregnant women.
Mr. Raja spoke about steps being taken by the Tamil Nadu government to prevent malnutrition among newborns and also to ensure that children have access to education.

A total of 3,464 pilgrims had registered to participate in the annual festival being held at the famous St. Antony’s Church in Katchatheevu, said organisers here on Tuesday. The church was established by the fishermen of India and Sri Lanka way back in 1913 St. Antony was worshipped as a protector of the fishermen and the fishermen offer prayers at the church as a mark of thanksgiving to the God for proving them good produce.
