
Tourism Minister inspects development projects in Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam

Tamil Nadu Minister for Tourism inspects ongoing and proposed projects in Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Tourism R. Rajendran inspected ongoing and proposed tourism projects in Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts on Tuesday.
In Nagapattinam, he was accompanied by District Collector P. Akash as he reviewed various tourism development proposals. These included a proposed boat ride facility in the Velankanni Vellaru floodplain, identified by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC). He also visited Prathabarampuram village near Velankanni, where a ₹1 crore eco and rural tourism project is under consideration. The project includes a food court, cycling tracks, handicraft workshops, cultural events, lakefront development with boat rides, and improvements to Poovai Beach.
At Vedaranyam, the Mr.Rajendran inspected proposals for a ₹5.44 crore cement road around Vedaranyeswarar Temple and a ₹2 crore boat ride facility at Vedamirtham Lake. At Kodiyakkarai Bird Sanctuary, he assessed a ₹1 crore Forest Department proposal to enhance infrastructure, including a viewing tower, visitor deck, telescopic equipment, and road development.
In Nagapattinam town, Mr. Rajendran reviewed a ₹50 lakh project to improve access and amenities at the Dutch Cemetery, including roads, toilets, signboards, and drinking water facilities. He also inspected Nagapattinam beach redevelopment plans, where a ₹80 lakh recreational park is proposed. Additionally, he examined a ₹4 crore project for infrastructure upgrades at Nagore Dargah, covering pathways, parking, a waiting hall, and bus stand improvements.
In Mayiladuthurai district, Mr. Rajendran, accompanied by District Collector H.S. Srikanth, inspected the ₹23.6 crore renovation projects at Hotel Tamil Nadu in Thirukadaiyur and the Poompuhar tourism complex.
At Thirukadaiyur, he reviewed Hotel Tamil Nadu’s facilities ensuring that adequate tourist amenities are available near the Amritaghateswarar Temple.
At Poompuhar, Mr. Rajendran inspected restoration works at the Silappadikaram Art Gallery, Pavvai Mandram, Ilanji Mandram, Nedungal Mandram, and Kotrappandal.

A total of 3,464 pilgrims had registered to participate in the annual festival being held at the famous St. Antony’s Church in Katchatheevu, said organisers here on Tuesday. The church was established by the fishermen of India and Sri Lanka way back in 1913 St. Antony was worshipped as a protector of the fishermen and the fishermen offer prayers at the church as a mark of thanksgiving to the God for proving them good produce.
