TPCC president criticizes BJP-led Centre for insufficient funds in Union Budget 2025-26, demands resignation of Union Ministers.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud flayed the Union government, led by the BJP, for allocating insufficient funds to Telangana in the Union Budget 2025-26. He demanded the resignation of Union Ministers Bandi Sanjay Kumar and G Kishan Reddy, citing their inability to secure adequate funds for the State.
Mr. Mahesh Kumar also announced that Congress would continue with peaceful protests until the Centre allocates the State’s due share. He along with Ministers Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) and Ponnam Prabhakar staged a protest at the Ambedkar statue near Tank Bund on Sunday, condemning the allocation of funds to the State in the Budget.
The TPCC chief criticised BJP MPs from Telangana for failing to ensure the allocation of a fair share in the Budget. He accused the BJP-led Centre of discriminating against Telangana, stating that despite the State’s eight BJP MPs, the Centre had given Telangana a “Gadida Guddu” (Donkey’s egg), which is popularly used to describe ‘Nothing’.
Mr. Goud pointed out that Telangana contributes 5.1% to the national GDP but receives only 2.10% through fund allocation. “While the Centre is collecting nearly ₹1 lakh crore in the form of GST and other taxes from Telangana, the Centre has not even allocated ₹40,000 crore to Telangana. It is so sad,” he added.
He also warned that the Telangana people won’t forgive the BJP for budgetary allocations to the state. Stating that there were no funds to fulfil the bifurcation promises and the second phase of the metro rail project, the TPCC chief announced that Congress would organise peaceful protests from Monday against the discrimination and called upon people, including opposition parties, to join the protests.
Minister Seethakka accused the BJP of having visceral hatred towards Telangana. She also added that the Centre had not even fulfilled the assurances made during the State bifurcation.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar stated that the BJP government’s hatred towards Telangana was not new and had been ongoing for several years. He demanded that BJP MPs raise their voice against the Centre to prove their commitment towards the development of Telangana. He called upon the political parties irrespective of their ideology to protest against the discrimination.
Given that the proposed 250-metre high skydeck and the second airport for Bengaluru cannot be in close proximity of each other, the city’s civic body has now put the skydeck project on the backburner till the location of the proposed second airport is finalised. The decision comes as the State government focuses on finalising land for Bengaluru’s proposed second airport.
Music is not immune to the vagaries of time. Classic rock musician Nandakumar, known popularly as Nandu Leo, has been a witness to the rise, fall and re-emergence of the capital city’s independent music scene, as well as the constant reshaping of tastes of the listeners. Yet, he has stuck to the genre of music he had fallen in love with in his younger days.
