The 2024 Lok Sabha Election will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is helming the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), is seeking a third term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP has given special focus to the southern States where it has not been able to manage many seats, barring Karnataka. The party has till now declared candidates for 430 seats and has released 12 lists of candidates.
While PM Modi is recontesting from Varanasi, the party has dropped some senior leaders such as Mansukh Mandviya and Harsh Vardhan, both served as Health Ministers in the Cabinet. While Rajya Sabha member and Minister L. Murugan is contesting from Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu, IT Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar is contesting against Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s capital.
BJP State president K. Surendran is contesting from Wayanad against former Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Adding a tint of celebrity politics, the party has fielded Suresh Gopi, Krishnakumar and Kangana Ranaut in Thrissur, Kollam and Mandi constituencies respectively.
