Kuppam constituency gears up to host anganwadi pilot project

State government launches early childhood development programme in Kuppam, focusing on physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth of children.
The State government has launched an early childhood development programme in the Kuppam Assembly constituency, represented by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The initiative is focussed on the first five years of a child since birth, and the recognition of a child’s physical and cognitive development during the same period.
Announced by the Chief Minister during his recent visit to Kuppam, this pilot project would be jointly implemented by the Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA) and a Hyderabad-based NGO CareNgrow.
District Collector Sumit Kumar said that the initiative combines scientific research, modern technology, and structured intervention to register healthy parameters in a child’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth. The project is now being experimented across 25 anganwadi centres in Kuppam constituency. “While launching the programme, the Chief Minister affirmed that this model will soon become a national model for the children in the targeted group. We are going to pump all the available resources for the success of the project,” Mr. Sumit Kumar said.
The objective of the programme is to groom a child’s cognitive development by enhancing learning abilities and problem-solving skills, emotional development by assisting children comprehend and regulate emotions. The trained personnel will also focus on encouraging the children to get actively involved in interactive sessions and learn communication skills. Similarly, the anganwadi kids in the selected centres will get comprehensive physical training.
KADA Project Director Vikas Marmath, an IAS officer, said that a strategic plan has been designed to support the targeted group at various levels. “From zero to one year, the brain development will receive a fillip through music, colours, and sounds. During the one to three year stage, language and motor skills are strengthened through play-based learning. We are going to launch structured pre-education activities to prepare children aged three to six for formal schooling,” the official said.
KADA has simultaneously launched a special training for anganwadi teachers to identify developmental gaps and guide parents on early interventions. Periodical interactions will be conducted with the parents for effective monitoring of the initiative and to register their valuable suggestions.
Anganwadi teacher, N.T. Kanchana Devi, from Ramnagar area in Kuppam explained how the project will equip parents with scientific knowledge about children’s growth at different stages. Mothers, R.S. Meghana and Mohana from Kuppam said that they were happy to have a specially designed programme for anganwadi children in Kuppam. “In a span of a few weeks, we will be able to notice good improvement in the communication abilities and confidence level of my child,” said Mohana.
