Kendriya Vidyalaya in Karaikal faces infrastructure challenges, urging authorities to expedite construction of a permanent building.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) in Karaikal continues to function without a permanent building since since 2010-11. The school has around 450 students from Classes 1 to 12 studying on old JIPMER campus, which lacks proper infrastructure.
Despite repeated petitions from the school administration, the issue remains unresolved.
A senior faculty member said that while land was sanctioned for the school at the time of its establishment, the district administration was yet to complete the transfer. “Prior to relocating to old JIPMER campus, the school operated from an old school building in Neravy, which was also inadequate. Constantly shifting locations affects students and hampers the overall development of the school,” the faculty member said.
The district parent-teacher association has urged the authorities to expedite the construction of a permanent building for the school. In a petition sent to the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, district president A. Vincent highlighted the hardships faced by students and parents due to lack of proper facilities.
“This is a Central Government school with specific infrastructural norms, including the need for permanent labs and facilities, which are only feasible in a dedicated building. Currently, these facilities are rented, which is not effective. Smart classrooms, labs, and sports grounds are all limited, impacting students, especially those in Class 12 who struggle with competitive exam preparations. Even teachers lack proper facilities and private space. The school aims to provide higher-level education, but the existing setup makes this difficult. Though 10 acres of land in Thirunallar were earmarked for the school, no construction has commenced till date,” the petition stated.
A senior official from the district administration acknowledged the delay, attributing it to encroachments. “There were issues related to encroachments, which prevented the transfer of land to the school. We have addressed most of them and expect to resolve the matter soon,” the official said.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
