Kazipet railway station getting a ₹24.45-crore facelift

South Central Railway modernizes Kazipet station under ABSS, improving passenger amenities with new facilities and infrastructure.
South Central Railway (SCR) has announced on Wednesday that 40% of the ₹24.45-crore Kazipet station modernisation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) has been completed and rest of the work is being expedited for completion within this financial year.
The major junction is one of the 40 railway stations in Telangana being re-developed under ABSS, at a total cost of ₹2,737 crore to improve passenger amenities. The station was originally established in 1888 as part of the Nizam’s Guaranteed State Railway (NGSR) and had played a crucial role in the transportation of coal, cotton and other goods from the surrounding regions.
Over the years, the station has undergone several expansions with new platforms, tracks, and amenities. Under the jurisdiction of Secunderabad division, the station is on the Secunderabad - Balharshah section with average footfall of 24,269 passengers per day and annual earnings of 41.36 crore. About four pairs of trains originate/terminate and another 98 trains halt here.
The proposed works include a new facade, 12-metre-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) along with provision of two lifts and two escalators for convenience of passengers, platform surface improvements, new toilet blocks, signages, landscaping, said a press release.
